Ben Franklin Transit Comprehensive Service Plan Study

Changes Coming to Ben Franklin Transit

Many changes are coming to BFT in the next few months as part of our Comprehensive Service Change. This includes changes to our hours of operation, changes to fixed routes, and frequency of fixed routes. All changes, except for our new technology, are set to go into effect on September 18, 2017. Our new technology is estimated to go into effect in October.

Routes: The largest change that is happening is the revamp of all of our Fixed Routes.
These new routes are set to go into effect on September 18, 2017. This date is subject to change, but in that event we will notify the public.

Route changes can be viewed here

Route Frequency: More frequent service on routes is the goal here. We are adding more buses and runs, and will be increasing the frequency of service on most routes (final schedules are coming soon)

Hours: We will also be extending our hours for both Fixed Route and Dial-A-Ride services. Hours of operation Monday-Friday will be 6:00am – 8:00pm and Saturday hours will be 7:00am – 7:00pm.

Night Service: Night Service will begin later in the evening, starting at 8:30pm; with last trip scheduled for midnight (12:00am). General taxi service will be available after midnight, but BFT will not be subsidizing those trips beyond midnight.

New Technology: GPS is being deployed on all fixed route buses, and a new mobile compatible website will enable customers to plan trips and track their bus from their mobile device.  In addition, users can set up alerts to receive text messages on routes and departure times, and watch real-time as the bus moves along its route towards stops.  Customers will also receive the added value of free Wi-Fi on the fixed route buses!

Final Route Alignments are Here!

After working tirelessly all spring, our planning department has nailed down our final route alignments for the service changes coming later this year. Please take a look at the new, more direct routes. Make sure you look at the overall system map to see if another route may now be closer to your location than the one you currently ride.

These routes will not go into effect until September 18, 2017.
